Our prayers go with SPBC staff member Andrew Kulasingham who – together with his wife Rhena – headed to South East Asia in mid January to volunteer in a month-long intensive discipleship programme for pre-university students.
“These young school-leavers are about to enter an environment where they’ll be heavily exposed to anti-Christian influences, so this is an opportunity to strengthen them as they go out,” says Andrew.
“Most of them are ‘cultural’ or ‘traditional’ Christians in the sense that they come from Christian families. Through this programme, I really want them to be grounded in their own faith, knowledge, and experience of the Lord.
“The apostle Paul always pointed back to his encounter with Christ on the road to Damascus: Likewise, I want them to experience Christ in a way they can point back to in future and cannot deny him.
“We’ll be looking at the first half of Romans, where Paul presents the whole gospel message, and also using the four Gospel accounts to see how God expressed himself in distinct ways: Son of God, suffering servant, perfect human, and king.
“It’s also about giving them the skills to continue an ongoing practice of devotion and worship to God, beyond our time together.”
Andrew has been part of this work for several years and seen its fruits before.
“Last year we saw one student who was nearly on the verge of losing her faith, but through the whole study she rededicated her life to the Lord. That showed us the importance of this work.”
Safe travels and see you soon, Andrew.
